Chakra 6: Open Your Eye

The sixth chakra is the Third Eye chakra or the Ajna chakra. This is also known as the brow chakra. The color indigo is connected with this intuition chakra and is symbolized by a two petal lotus. The third eye chakra is located on your forehead behind your eyebrows at your carotid plexus or third eye. Mentally it is associated with balancing the lower and higher selves, trusting inner guidance and accessing or intuition.

Physically this chakra governs our vision skills, brain, left eye, ears, nose pituitary gland and cerebral nervous system. Emotionally it deals with clarity on an intuitive level, sensitivity, envy and admiration.

Light is the element here. You have the fundamental gift to see in this life: images, visualizations, insights, dreams, intuitions and through imagination. Many of the issues one might encounter if the Ajna chakra is blocked or closed include: poor vision or memory, lack of imagination, poor dream recall, difficulty visualizing or insensitivity.

Others have experienced disconnection from their body due to experiences of what you see doesn't go with what you are told. You have invalidation of intuition and psychic occurrences. If you were subjected to a frightening environment such as war, violence, or abuse, you may find this chakra of special importance as it probably needs to be opened and cleared.

The third eye is the seat of our intuition. Open it.

If this chakra's challenges have landed for you, the work that needs to be accomplished here is: visual stimulation - create any visual art, engage in meditation, participate in art therapy such as coloring, painting, and drawing, make efforts to connect with images with feelings, experience active dreamwork, hypnosis, guided visualizations or even past life regression work.

Affirmation is one way to aid the clearing of some of these blockages. The affirmation I would like you to focus on is:

“I trust my intuition"

Starting out loud, vocalize:

"I see all things in clarity. I am open to the wisdom within. I can manifest my vision. I am clear. My thoughts are calm and peaceful. I know my own voice, I hear my inner voice. I am intuitive.”

A meditation to support the healing of the Anja chakra is:

Sit comfortably in your normal meditation posture.

Visualize a deep-indigo luminous chakra spinning slowly at the centre of your forehead.

Imagine indigo light from the chakra filling up your head.

Now visualize a beam of indigo light shooting down from the chakra to the lower five chakras - your vishuddha, anahata, manipura, swadhishthana, and mooladhara chakras.

Imagine the light filling up your entire body with a radiant energy.

Do not rush into this experience, you must be patient and take everything slowly, letting yourself go with the flow.

Feel the third eye opening.

Amethyst is a beautiful gem to use for your third eye as you meditate here.
